Step 77 - Decide on Having a Coffee Bar for your Wedding

(2 Months to 3 Months before your Wedding) Another rage at weddings in recent years has been the coffee bar. What is a coffee bar you ask? It provides that caffeine fix along with an added flavor sensation. It's a table set up with different coffees, teas, and hot beverages. It also includes different types of coffees, many varied flavorings, and you might even think of topping it off with whipped cream, cinnamon, mini marshmallows, or chocolate shavings.

It usually includes normal "American Coffee" which is brewed by mixing the grounds of roasted coffee beans with hot water, allowing the mixture to steep briefly and then straining out the coffee grounds. The "regular coffee" usually is served in an 8 ounce cup of coffee with a teaspoon of sugar and a small amount of milk or cream mixed in.

Beside serving classic coffee you might incorporate adding caffe espresso which is a concentrated beverage brewed by forcing hot water under pressure through finely ground coffee usually brewed using an espresso machine, You might include cappuccino which starts off with espresso and then hot milk is added and then steamed to make a milk froth. Lattes have become popular in recent years, are very similar to cappuccinos but the milk is not frothed, a little more milk is added and sometimes the coffee beans are replaced with chai, mata, or matcha.

The coffee bar, allows your wedding guests the freedom to make themselves a coffee drink exactly how they like it or create a coffee sensation they have never experienced before, will it be classic or exotic? Some brides and grooms may hire baristas to serve the coffee from the coffee bar. If the budget is tight, the coffee can be set up in coffee urns and set up so the wedding guests can serve themselves. You may find a volunteer at your wedding to check with seniors and how would they like their coffee prepared from the coffee bar. You should include a coffee urn that is devoted to decaf coffee and make sure that coffee urn is clearly marked.

How you decide to set up your coffee bar is clearly up to you. Many brides like to include coffee-themed desserts that are situated near the coffee bar. Some dessert suggestions include coffee cakes, mocha parfaits, chocolate mousse, chocolate chip cannoli, blondies, brownies, fudge, donuts, petit fours, biscotti, lady fingers, fruit cake, many flavored cupcakes, and home styled baked cookies.

Another treat for coffee bars is to have a chocolate dipped coffee spoon for stirring an extra treat into each cup. You might even think of personalizing the mugs, have the bride's and groom's picture or the date of the wedding on the mug to take home as a wedding favor. Your pictures can nowadays even be plastered on styrofoam cups.

There are tricks to making great coffee and many a business mess up on the formula. It starts off with using some of the worlds best coffee beans, usually from a country mountain range that has rich volcanic soil. The next step is to freshly ground the coffee beans right before you brew it. Next is using filtered water, great water makes great tasting coffee.

Lastly it also helps if the coffee is centered in the coffee filter upon brewing and the coffee filters or the coffee pods are pre-moistened. Preheating the mug a little bit, also helps to keep the coffee hot.

It's not very often that you get a great cup of coffee. Many businesses mess up somewhere along the line. If it's not using filtered water, or having fresh ground coffee beans, many businesses have not implemented a routine to thoroughly clean the coffee urn or the coffee maker. There are steps that should be included as part of the coffee making process.

Steps Cleaning the Coffee Urn

1 - Remove the lid, the coffee basket for the grounds and the plastic stem holding up the coffee basket. Empty the coffee grounds from the basket and fill your sink with hot soapy water. Scrub the lid basket and stem thoroughly, rinse them in hot water several times and set them in a dish drainer to dry.

2 - Fill a clean spray bottle with white vinegar and spray it on the inside of your coffee urn. Wait a few minutes then wipe clean with a dry towel or paper towel.

3 - Fill your coffee urn about 1/4 full of hot soapy water. Scrub the inside of the urn with a sponge, paying close attention to the bottom and corners. These spots tend to collect most of the coffee oils and mineral deposits and the most likely place for stain buildup.

4 - Dump the soapy water out of the urn and rinse two or three times with hot water swirl. Clean water around a bit and dump it back out.

5 - Fill the urn halfway with hot water and position the dispenser over the sink. Pull the handle of the dispenser  to let the hot water pour through the spout. Repeat twice to clean out the dispenser and keep the coffee tasting fresh. Do not pass soapy water through the dispenser.

6 - If you see heat or minimal stains, make a paste of baking soda and rub it on the stain using a dish towel, wait a a few minutes and then rinse the urn a few times.

7 - If you have not used the urn for awhile, be sure to rinse out the coffee urn before using to wash away accumulated dust.

Steps For Cleaning a Coffee Maker

1 - Make a mixture of 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water enough to fill the pot. If this is the first time you've cleaned the coffee maker in a long long time make the mixture half vinegar and half water instead. Occasionally use 1 ounce of citric acid or lemon oil instead and add with 4 cups of hot water, then 4 cups of cold water to the mixture.

2 - Place a filter in your coffee maker as you do normally

3 - Pour the mixture into the coffee make where you normally just add water.

4 - Turn the coffee maker on and let the mixture run completely through

5 - Discard the filter and mixture.

6 - Let the coffee maker sit and cool for 15 minutes while it's off.

7 - Rinse the coffee pot.

8 - Repeat all of the above twice, but this time with plain cold water. This will make sure all of the vinegar and water solution is completely gone.

There is nothing as delicious as a great cup of coffee. Impress your wedding guests with great coffee and include a great coffee bar, it may be just the thing that will leave them a good lasting impression of your wedding day! See you on the other side!
