Step 67 - Decide on a Specialty Bar for your Wedding

(2 Months to 3 Months before the Wedding)
Creating a specialty bar for your wedding is more geared to an outdoor wedding. This type of bar is a great idea at remote location using a wedding tent, with a field, lake, or river, or a backyard wedding or weddings at some destination locations. The specialty bar goes a long way to make the wedding special. The specialty bar might be created using a tiki bar, a tropical bar theme area imported with a thatched roof.

The first specialty bar is a daiquiri bar. It's a good idea to get your hands on about five blenders to mix frozen drinks. Next you want to find a round table and load it up with all sorts of fruits. You want the fruits to be piled into a cone shape sort of like a wedding cake making the fruit table all pretty. You want to load the table with watermelons, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, mango, kiwi, oranges, lemons, limes, pineapples, coconuts, grapes, apricots, peaches, sour apples, raspberries, plums, cocoa, and maybe include a few exotic fruits that nobody has ever heard of.

You will want to take pictures around the table of fruits before you begin making drinks. You then start making a different flavored daiquiri about every 15 to 20 minutes. Daiquiris are made with starting off with a little ice, then adding some citrus juice (often is limeade), then a simple syrup (triple sec, sugar in boiled water, grenadine, cointreau, midori, colada mix, vanilla extract or other flavored extract) and then add a good rum in the blender. All mixed together to make a pureed drink, ah delicious. Pour the drink into a nice size glass and add a citrus fruit, little umbrella, maybe add a dollop of whipped cream and a cherry on top.

Flavored daiquiris taste so good, the problem is your wedding guests will want to try many flavors. The important thing is to have a place to sleep at the premises or use a designated driver if one gets too sloshed.  If it's a poor man's wedding, you might request everybody bring their own bottle of rum. It's a good idea to post the expected time of each of the flavored daiquiris so guests can be sure to come back to the bar at a specific time. You might start off with strawberry daiquiris at 4:00, the blueberry at 4:15, then another one every fifteen minute intervals, sour apple, then mango, then raspberry, then pina colada, then peach, then chocolate banana, and all through the fruits you have on hand.

You can substitute the rum and use tequila instead, and make frozen margaritas instead of making daiquiris. You want to use a wide mouthed margarita glass instead and put a sticky compound like butter and then rim the glass with margarita or kosher salt. You will want to make virgin non-alcoholic drinks for the under age drinkers and think about making them smoothies, a mixture of fruits and fruit juices such as limeade.

When you have these type of specialty bars at your outdoor wedding party you want plenty of nibbles on hand so they offset the effects of the strong drinks. It's a good idea to have bowls and plates of crackers, mild cheese, pepperoni, salami, pretzels, potato chips, trail mix, assorted nuts, and cut up fruit chunks.

Another type of bar that's a hit is the old time soda bar. The older generation will be nostalgic and the soda bar makes a colorful arrangement. You can have sodas on a table including every color of the rainbow, you can pick up these sodas at a gourmet delicatessen or order them from some online companies that can make a delivery. You can get a wide assortment of different colored sodas or order sodas according to the color scheme of your wedding. You can even rent a soft ice cream machine and make soda floats such as root beer floats, sasparilla floats, or cherry coke floats. Make sure you provide soda fountain glasses and soda fountain straws and spoons. You could include an ice cream bar with all sorts of fancy toppings. Some places to order soda fountain drinks and supplies online are listed below. Locally, some soda fountain glasses can be found at Crate & Barrel, Target, Kitchen Supply Stores, and Restaurant Supply Stores.

So if you are having an outdoor or back yard poor man's wedding, think of making your wedding grand and include a specialty bar. The drinks are tropical or nostalgic and the drinks taste so good and your wedding reception will still be fabulous. You can make great tasting drinks and offer some homemade hors d'oeuvres to serve in lieu of the formal sit down dinner and save thousands of dollars. For cost savings on a wedding cake, get a wedding cup cake tree stand instead and make a number of different flavored cupcakes.

Enjoy your wedding, it can still be fabulous, create a specialty bar, and see you on the other side!
